Winchester House
A downloadable game
Winchester House is a board game where strategy meets survival in a haunted hotel gone terribly wrong. What starts as a paranormal investigation quickly becomes a race to escape the clutches of a dangerous Entity.
Every move counts as you play on a changing grid, plotting your path to the exit while sabotaging the other players as you desperately try to run away from the facility. Use tiles to build your route or block other players', and adapt to the chaos. But, BEWARE! Every two rounds, the Entity destroys part of the board, wiping out paths and forcing you to think fast or fall behind.
Can you outsmart your opponents and escape the hotel, or will you become just another forgotten soul?
- Players set up the grid and place the bordeaux starting tiles in their designated locations.
- Each player chooses a color to start the game and places their pawn in their starting space. This same color will also determine each player's individual exit point on the central tile, located opposite their starting tile of the same color.
- The first player is chosen randomly, and turns proceed in a clockwise direction.
- On their turn, players must draw one tile from each tile stack and place them on the grid. (If a tile cannot be placed anywhere on the grid, it may be discarded, and a new tile drawn, but only in this situation.) During the same turn, players may move their pawn up to two spaces along the constructed path. Moving is optional.
- Paths leading to the center cannot be deliberately blocked by other players; there must always be a way for a player on the path to reach the center.
- The tile stack with a light grey backside contains tiles that allow continuous forward movement, while the other stack with the dark grey backside contains obstacles or tiles that force the player to change their path.
- When placing tiles, players must continue the existing path. Each placed tile must align with the path, meaning it must connect properly to adjacent tiles. Tiles that do not connect directly to the path or are isolated in the middle of the grid cannot be placed. Additionally, the starting tiles near the exit may only be used when the player has connected their path to them.
- Players can place tiles on other players’ paths.
- Starting from the third round, and every two rounds afterward, the perimeter of the board is “captured” by the Entity. Any tile and/or player within this perimeter is removed from the game, and tiles can no longer be placed in these areas of the grid. (This is the only instance where a player’s path can be blocked, but only by the Entity. Players can continue placing tiles until they are eliminated.)
- The winner is the first player to enter the central tile through the side corresponding to their color and escape the mansion alive.
